The United States Golf Association has announced the eight players selected to play for Team USA in the 2018 Curtis Cup, to be played June 8-10 at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.UCLA’s Lilia Vu, ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, tops the list. Vu has had quite the year so far, winning four out of seven college events she's played, and finishing top-six in the other three. She has been No.1 on Golfweek’s ANNIKA Award presented by 3M Watch List for the past three editions and is heading into the NCAA Regionals with obvious momentum. Vu played in the ANNIKA Invitational USA presented by Rolex twice before heading to college, and thereafter has competed in two ANNIKA Intercollegiate events.Joining Vu is Bruin teammate, Mariel Galdiano. This weekend, the best junior golfers from around the world will compete in the ANA Junior Inspiration with the winner earning an exemption into the LPGA’s first major championship of the season, the ANA Inspiration. Of the 48 players in the field, 36 are ANNIKA alumnae.The tournament field is determined by the ANA Priority Mileage Point Standings, which are based on the Rolex AJGA Rankings. In addition, top qualifiers from ANA’s 11 North American Gateway Cities will compete.The 54-hole tournament will take place at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., March 24-25, 2018.The 36 ANNIKA alumnae include Amanda Linner, the reigning ANNIKA Invitational Europe champion. There has been a lot of discussion in golfing circles about which Rule of Golf players would most like to see changed, in addition to the proposed changes announced by the Ruling Bodies on 1st March. At the top of nearly every informal poll I have seen is a wish to change the stroke and distance penalty for a ball played out of bounds. Players hate to have to return to where they last played from when they unexpectedly find that their ball is the wrong side of an out of bounds boundary line. When this happens there is an inevitable delay in play while the player goes back. Of course, they should have played a provisional ball, but there are occasions when the out of bounds line is not obvious from where the ball was played from and other times when players find that their ball has taken an unusual defl... During the second round of the BMW International Open, the Danish Pro, Thorbjørn Olesen, asked for a ruling when his ball placed at rest rolled back into the water whilst he was walking up to the putting green to assess his chip. Subsequently, he criticised; the official that gave him the ruling that he didn’t like, previous officials who he said had given him wrong rulings “so many times this year”, and the Rule itself.

The details were that following his second stroke on the 4th hole Olesen’s ball had landed unplayable in water. On taking relief from the hazard he dropped and re-dropped his ball, which on both occasions rolled back inside the hazard. Patrick Reed has never been one of my favourite tour golfers; he has been involved in numerous controversies including his expulsion from the University of Georgia, apparently following a number of complaints from his golf teammates. His notorious, prickly personality flared up again in an incident during the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, Florida last weekend. Reed’s ball was lying in dense undergrowth behind the 11th green and he claimed that there was interference by cables to his stance. Apparently, the first Rules official denied relief and a second official was summoned, although this happened prior to a spectator starting to record the incident.
