Taylor Fritz Overcomes Foot Setback To Advance To Wimbledon Semifinals

Share

American tennis player Taylor Fritz reached a significant career milestone on Tuesday by advancing to the Wimbledon semifinals, overcoming a mid-match pause when a trainer attended to a foot issue. Fritz defeated Karen Khachanov in four sets with scores of 6–3, 6–4, 1–6, and 7–6 (4), marking his first appearance in the semifinal round at Wimbledon. He becomes the first American man to achieve this on grass since John Isner did so in 2018.

Ranked No. 5 and last year’s US Open runner-up, Fritz entered the encounter with only one win in five major quarterfinal matches, including two at Wimbledon. His forthcoming match will feature either Spanish champion Carlos Alcaraz or Britain’s Cam Norrie, who is playing without a seed. Reflecting on his win, Fritz remarked that previous quarterfinal exits, especially close five-set losses, made this success even more satisfying.

Since the grass season began, Fritz has built an impressive tally of 13 victories, including wins in Stuttgart and Eastbourne. His performance on this surface ranks as the finest among American men since the ATP Tour began in 1990. The triumph further establishes his prominence in the male tennis circuit on grass, adding to his rising reputation in the sport.
