Charles Barkley's Unique Sports Contributions
Charles Barkley, an acclaimed basketball legend, recently contributed to an unusual sports decision by helping the Flyers select Porter Martone with the sixth pick in the hockey draft. This move adds another surprising chapter to Barkley’s varied career across different athletic fields.
In a separate contest, Barkley is set to compete in the celebrity golf tournament at South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Having posted his strongest performance in earlier editions, he now enters the event as a significant underdog. Betting establishments have offered his victory at 7,500-1. Last year, he achieved a career-best finish in 58th place, while current projections place his final standing near the 65th mark.
Lead oddsmaker Anthony Salleroli remarked in an email that only a few wagers have backed Barkley to win the tournament, quipping that these tickets might soon be available on secondary platforms.
Among his competitors, retired hockey star Joe Pavelski tops the list at +220 odds, closely followed by former tennis professional Mardy Fish at +240. Sports personality Tony Romo and NBA star Stephen Curry carry odds of +350 and +425, respectively. With champions from previous tournaments—Curry in 2023 and Romo in 2022—the support is spread evenly among the leading entrants.
The tournament field includes 90 celebrity golfers. Other entrants feature NFL veteran Aaron Rodgers (45-1), actor Alfonso Ribeiro (175-1), Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce (275-1), analyst Jason Kelce (350-1), and comedian Larry the Cable Guy at 2,000-1. The mix of star power and competitive odds makes these events a compelling sports highlight this season.
