South Korea's highest professional soccer league will welcome foreign goalkeepers starting with the 2026 season after lifting a 26-year ban.
Since 1999, only native players have occupied the goalkeeper position in the league. The regulation was initially adopted when the league featured just ten clubs to nurture homegrown talent. With 26 clubs now participating in the top two divisions, the league board in Seoul approved including international goalkeepers in team rosters. According to a recent statement, the increased number of teams offers ample playing opportunities for local players and also provides extra chances for international talent. This change could add a fresh dynamic to the competition in the coming season. Fans look forward to a period of exciting challenges and dramatic plays.
