Kupcho, Maguire Surge With 10-under 60 To Seize Dow Championship Lead

In Midland, Michigan at Friday's Dow Championship, teammates Jennifer Kupcho and Leona Maguire achieved a score of 60 (10-under) in the better-ball round, taking the second-round lead during the LPGA team event. After an opening alternate-shot round of 67 on Thursday, they posted a combined score of 127 (13-under) at Midland Country Club. Maguire explained their strategy focused on maximizing opportunities on each hole, noting that early birdies and an eagle set a productive pace.

Their effort put them one stroke ahead of Cassie Porter and Gemma Dryburgh, who paired together in the first round with a 62 by parring the final six holes. The contest proceeds with another alternate-shot round on Saturday and a concluding better-ball round on Sunday, promising a competitive finish.

Kupcho, a 2022 champion alongside partner Lizette Salas, emphasized that sustaining their performance is key as the rounds continue. Other competitive teams include Sarah Schmelzel-Albane Valenzuela with a score of 61; the pairing of Manon De Roey with Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, who tallied 61; and the duo of Yan Liu and Yahui Zhang with a 62, which brings their total to 11 under as a team. Valenzuela remarked that the positive interaction with her partner improved her play significantly.

Lexi Thompson and Meghan Kang, after an initial 67, posted a 65 in their second round, which now places them tied for ninth at 8 under overall. Defending champions Ruoning Yin and Jeeno Thitikul registered a 66 and now stand at 6 under, adding excitement as the championship progresses.

The event continues to attract interest among golf enthusiasts as each team demonstrates strong sportsmanship and refined skill. In every round, players face fresh challenges, offering spectators plenty to enjoy.
